Dominique Turner
Dom(o) Turner is a dedicated higher education administrator with a rich background in student affairs and a commitment to fostering inclusive, transformative educational environments. Currently completing a doctoral dissertation on the history and impact of church-related HBCUs toward the fulfillment of the PhD in Higher Education Administration from Morgan State University, Dom is an interdisciplinary scholar-practitioner with deep insights into the intersections of education, history, and community empowerment. Dom’s research sheds light on the vital role faith-based institutions have played in advancing opportunities for Black people in America.
As the Associate Dean for Retention, Inclusion, Success, and Engagement at Allegheny College, Dom Turner brings a strategic, student-centered approach to his role. His initiatives to improve retention and support students from historically underrepresented backgrounds have had a significant impact. Notably, his leadership in the design and implementation of the RISE Program within the Office of Inclusive Excellence has been instrumental in supporting the academic and personal development of men of color, demonstrating his dedication to creating programs that foster a sense of belonging for students on the margins.
Dom holds an MPA in Management and Public Policy and a BS in Government from Bowie State University and has held various roles across multiple institutions. These have included diverse institutions like George Washington University and the University of Maryland Global Campus, where he managed and innovated non-traditional and international academic programs such as UMGC’s partnership with the US Naval Community College. Dom’s work spans areas such as multicultural student affairs, student counseling, admissions, financial services, and academic program oversight, demonstrating a commitment to serving students from a variety of backgrounds, including military-affiliated learners and first-generation students. With experience spanning various student affairs functional areas, Dom has consistently emphasized the importance of academic access, community building, and equity in higher education. As a recognized Rising Graduate Scholar by Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Dom is passionate about developing equitable academic spaces through strategic leadership and community building.
